FreeHand Assets ReadMe

Overview
    

The Creative Asset Pack contains envelopes, graphic hose files, symbols, and template files that you can easily install and use in FreeHand. It is located in the Assets folder on the FreeHand installation CD-ROM.

This document describes how to install the assets on both Mac and Windows platforms. Each procedure below assumes you have already placed the FreeHand CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive of your computer. For details about using envelopes, the graphic hose, symbols, and templates, see FreeHand Help or the manual, Using FreeHand.


How to Use the Creative Asset Pack - Mac Instructions
    

Envelopes

Install additional envelope presets, then choose them from the pop-up menu on the Envelope toolbar.

  1. Quit FreeHand.
  2. Back up, copy, or remove the original "Envelopes" in the FreeHand 10\English\Settings\Envelope folder.
  3. Copy the new "Envelopes" from the CD-ROM into the Envelope folder.
  4. Restart FreeHand. The new Envelope presets appear in the pop-up menu on the Envelope toolbar.

Hoses

Add useful graphics to the selection of graphic hose options.
  1. Quit FreeHand.
  2. Copy the files from the Hoses folder on the CD-ROM to the English\Xtras\Graphic Hose Folder for FreeHand 10.
  3. Restart FreeHand. The new Graphic Hose graphics appear in the pop-up menu on the Graphic Hose Options dialog box.
To use the Graphic Hose:
  1. Double-click the Graphic Hose in the Xtra Tools toolbar to open the Graphic Hose Options dialog box.
  2. Choose a hose and specify options, and then click OK.
  3. Drag or click the Graphic Hose in your FreeHand document.

Symbols

Quickly stock your library of Symbols with prepared graphics.
  1. Copy the Symbol libraries to the Symbols folder located in the FreeHand 10\English folder.
  2. In FreeHand, choose Window > Panels > Library to open the Library panel.
  3. Choose Import from the Options pop-up menu on the Library panel.
  4. Select the desired Symbol library.
  5. Click each symbol to select it for import. Hold down Shift to select a continuous range of symbols. Hold down Command to select two or more discontiguous symbols.
  6. Click Import. The selected symbols appear in the Library panel.

To use a symbol:

Drag a symbol from the Library panel onto a page in a FreeHand document, creating an instance of the symbol. Editing the symbol automatically changes all instances throughout a FreeHand document. For more information, see FreeHand Help or the manual, Using FreeHand.


Templates

Create new FreeHand documents based on re-usable templates.
  1. In FreeHand, choose File > Open, and navigate to the Templates folder within the Assets folder.
  2. Choose a template file (FT9) to open an untitled FreeHand document file that is a copy of the template file.
  3. Save individual files as FreeHand documents (FH10), preserving the template file for future use.

To automatically base all newly created FreeHand documents on a specific template file:

  1. Copy the template file into the English folder located in the FreeHand 10 folder.
  2. Enter the exact template file name in the Document > "New Document Template" preference field.

Envelopes

  1. In FreeHand, choose File > Open, and navigate to the Templates folder within the Assets folder. On Windows, you can use the Wizard to open a template: Choose Help > Wizards, click the Welcome button, and then click the Template button.
  2. Choose a template file (FT9) to open an untitled FreeHand document file that is a copy of the template file.
  3. Save individual files as FreeHand documents (FH10), preserving the template file for future use.

To automatically base all newly created FreeHand documents on a specific template file:

  1. Copy the template file into the English folder located in the FreeHand 10 folder.
  2. Enter the exact template file name in the Document > "New Document Template" preference field.
